Book Party for Natural Thorn Killers

Over the weekend, we had the book party for Natural Thorn Killers: A Creeping Guide to Plant Horror.  It was an absolute smash!  The Cooper’s Arms was filled to the rafters (thankfully wiht air conditioning!)  and the lovely Janina Faye of Day of the Triffids fame was there to help us kick it off.

We mingled for a while and kicked off with Tony and I giving short 2-minute readings from our favourite sections. His was from the eerie Gothic Korean horror Acacia (2003) and mine was from the creeping hit horror The Ruins (2008).  Janina answered a few questions about Day of the Triffids, and her time doing indie film with the talented Paul Cotgrove OBE, who was happy to share some funny anecdotes as well.

Then the fun began!  We had a little Plant-Based Quiz with questions ranging from identifying famous fictional plant characters to identifying flowers in the Christmas Number One songs and even a bit of (light) botany.  It was a very close call, but the “Parsnips” team won in the end; and only one team knew who Evil Seed was of He-Man fame!

We also got to sign books, chat with everyone:

And we got some very lovely gifts from wonderful friends, including our very talented friend Asa who designed some special Plant Horror Film seed packets – including Audrey 2 buds, and Matango Mushrooms! His wild talents were appreciated by all, I think they may have been photographed more than the people, and you can see why:

Novelty Seed packets designed aroudn the theme of Plant Horror, including "Audrey II" from Little Shop of Horrors.

If you come and see us at Horror-On-Sea Takeover Day at the SouthEnd Film Festival, we will likely have them in toe, and possibly for sale!

Until next time xL
