Tuesday 11 April 2023 A dream came true: I was on the film set of The Witches of the Sands. And I was going to be in front of the camera. Getting cattle-gunned in the head. Who could ask for more?
I’ve written about horror movies, and I talk about them with Chris, but I had no idea what to expect on a film set or what the experience would be like. Somehow that didn’t deter the very talented director, Tony Mardon (who was on an episode of LHMC), who generously offered to make me a diner in one of his scenes. As you may know already, TWoTS is about a horror director whose life, mind, and work, collide in a post-modern meltdown of horror cinema. It has a bit of everything – from the surreal, the comedic, referential, and gore – so it was a chance to be a part of something truly unique as well as every horror fan’s dream.
The scene included horror legends Simon Bamford (Hellraiser) and Laurence Harvey (Human Centipede 2), who joined the already stellar cast filled with horror legends (possibly everyone that is still alive- check out the IMDB page, it’s like a British horror encyclopedia). Seeing them work and interact was incredible. I don’t want to give anything away, but they had enviable comedic timing and built off each other and the surroundings. If you ever need a masterclass in acting – they are your guys!
When it came to my little moments, the director and director of photography – Andy Boothby – were so helpful and I never had more fun in my life. It was a welcoming experience with the cast and crew all very patient and talented. I basically just watched the magic happen and let me say that it was amazing. I will leave you with a taste of the experience, and the film, with this official photo taken by Lee Thompson, more are on his Twitter.
